Limousin is known among the British as France’s answer to the Lake District. Of course, most of the region’s lakes are lovely, unspoilt places where you can ramble or fish.

But Limousin’s two largest expanses of water (at Vassiviere and Saint Pardoux) have been carefully developed into fabulous activity resorts. They are still as beautiful as they ever were, but they now offer a broad range of attractions, especially water sports.

Maison du Gui

Lac du Saint Pardoux is the nearer to Maison du Gui, and you can be there in less than half an hour. It has 330 hectares (more than 800 acres) of lake, 50 kilometres of marked footpaths for ramblers and pony trekkers, and 28 kilometres of shore, including three sandy beaches that are patrolled by lifeguards.

The lake is divided into zones so that people pursuing different activities don't spoil one another's pleasure.
