Maison du Gui was originally an old stone barn. We spent a year converting it into a cosy yet spacious rural retreat. Of course, we left exposed some of the stone walls and all of the beams – so you’ll never forget that you’re staying somewhere that has a unique and genuine charm.   But we also sympathetically introduced every modern facility to ensure that you are comfortable throughout your stay.

Maison du Gui

Eating in
There are plenty of excellent French restaurants within a short drive, but there will probably be times when you’d rather cook for yourselves. Now you have to make a difficult decision. Maison du Gui has a small but well equipped new kitchen. But immediately outside the front door, in the gite’s private courtyard garden, is a barbeque – and few things taste as good as a barbequed steak from around here. The Limousin breed of cattle is world-renowned for the taste and quality of its meat.

There are dining tables and chairs both inside Maison du Gui and outside in the courtyard garden.

Lying in
The first thing that you’ll see when you wake up in the morning is the gently rolling countryside of the Haute Vienne. The bedroom window provides a great pillow-height view, and it would be understandable if some mornings you decided to linger in bed for a while. Just don’t forget that the baker’s van will be around soon with fresh croissants and bread for your breakfast.

The bedroom area occupies the entire open gallery on the first floor. As with everything in Maison du Gui, the bed, wardrobe, full-length mirror and romantic lighting fittings were all brand new.

Scrubbing up
The shower room is on the ground floor (and again is entirely new). It is extensively tiled, and has a generously proportioned shower cubicle, a lavatory and a basin. Naturally, you’ll enjoy lashings of hot water.

Staying in
You will probably wish to spend most days outside the gite, relaxing beside the swimming pool, reading and sunbathing on a lounger, or out and about exploring the delights of Limousin. But whenever you feel like escaping from the heat, or putting your feet up after a sumptuous French meal in a local restaurant, the gite is always there - a haven of peace, comfort and privacy. Why not settle down in one of the comfortable armchairs and watch a movie or catch up with your favourite British programmes on satellite television? Alternatively, put on a romantic CD and pour yourselves a couple of glasses of wine.
